What is the material construction of the jug?

Tuff Jug is constructed of multiple layers of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), a type of thermoplastic polymer. HDPE has a high strength-to-density ratio, meaning it is strong for its weight. HDPE products are known to have a long lifespan and resistance to wear and tear. HDPE is resistant to many chemicals and solvents and is suitable for storage and transportation of various substances. 

What can be stored in the Tuff Jug? 

Tuff Jug is used in the industrial, construction, and motorsport industries for the transportation, storage, and proper disposal of the fluids listed: water, antifreeze, engine oil, hydraulic fluid, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, solvents, cleaners, transmission fluid, diesel exhaust fluid, fertilizer, feed, performance additives and more! Tuff Jug is classified as a utility container, not a certified portable fuel container under ARB, DOT, or EPA. It must not be used for fuel or kerosene.

How does the jug ventilate if there is no external venting? 

Tuff Jug has a proprietary internal ventilation system included in both the Auto Stop Spout and the Ripper Cap. A black ventilation tube runs from the tip of the nozzle through the proprietary side handle, and continues to the base of the Tuff Jug. When the Tuff Jug is tilted to pour, the ventilation line is perfectly located in the air pocket formed inside the Tuff Jug and provides the air ventilation required for the best in class flow rates!

What if my jug gets dropped? Will it break? 

Tuff Jug is constructed of multiple layers of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) , a type of thermoplastic polymer. HDPE has a high strength-to-density ratio, meaning it is strong for its weight. HDPE products are known to have a long lifespan and resistance to wear and tear. We have tested our jugs using a “drop test”, a safety evaluation where a Tuff Jug is dropped from a specified height to assess its structural integrity and ability to contain fluids during a fall. This test ensures the container can withstand potential impacts, preventing leaks or spills. We don’t recommend trying this with your Tuff Jug but you can check out the results in this video!

Can I store/lay my Tuff Jug on its side with the Auto Stop Spout installed?

Absolutely! We use o-rings where others don't, giving you a truly leak-free experience whether your jug is standing upright or laying on it's side. Just make sure the jug cap and spout are securely tightened and you're all set.  

 

A Tuff Jug with the Ripper Cap installed securely can also be laid on its side for transport. 

Will the Tuff Jug collapse with changes in temperature?

Tuff Jug is constructed of multiple layers of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) , a type of thermoplastic polymer. HDPE has a high strength-to-density ratio, meaning it is strong for its weight and is resistant to jug collapse. 

 

Tuff Jug with the Auto Stop Spout installed is not engineered to provide a 100% air-tight seal. This prevents excessive expansion and contraction of the Tuff Jug in changing environmental conditions and eliminates the chance of the jug collapsing.

 

Tuff Jug with the Ripper Cap installed will have an air-tight seal and will need to be periodically “burped”. "Burping" a can, in this context, refers to releasing pressure from the Tuff Jug to balance internal and external pressure. This is done to prevent the Tuff Jug from collapsing due to pressure buildup from temperature changes. It is also done to ensure a faster flow when dispensing.

Are you actually “Made in the USA”? 

Yes! Tuff Jug is manufactured right here at our facility in Nampa, Idaho. We manufacture the Tuff Jug itself using the latest multi-layer blow molding technology. All of the hard plastic parts are manufactured right here in our facility using the latest injection molding technology. 

Should I use pipe tape/PTFE on the plastic to plastic threads at the base of the Auto Stop Spout? 

Pro tip! Ambient temperature changes can cause plastic to shrink or expand ever so slightly. Using a few wraps of pipe tape/PTFE on the threads at the base of the Auto Stop Spout will ensure a leak free seal between the spout and the cap regardless of ambient temperature fluctuations! 

Can I use an Auto Stop Spout with a Ripper Cap?

The Ripper Cap is a fully built assembly that is not interchangeable with the Auto Stop Spout. If you would like to have a Ripper Cap and an Auto Stop Spout available for the same Tuff Jug, purchase the Auto Stop Spout and select the option with the Storage Cap. 

I want to use the same jug with a Ripper Cap and Auto Stop Spout. What do I need to purchase? 

The Ripper Cap is a fully built assembly that is not interchangeable with the Auto Stop Spout. If you would like to have a Ripper Cap and an Auto Stop Spout available for the same Tuff Jug, purchase the Auto Stop Spout and select the option with the Storage Cap. 

Will your Auto Stop Spout or Ripper Cap work with other brands like VP? 

Our caps and spouts are not compatible with any other brands. Tuff Jug uses a proprietary and improved venting system and cap sealing mechanism that no other brand offers. That system only works when used in conjunction with a Tuff Jug. 

Did Tuff Jug update their jug? Is my old jug or accessory compatible with the new version? 

Yes, Tuff Jug has launched its GEN3 product line! To see all the changes in detail, check out this video!

Previous model accessories and Tuff Jug’s are not compatible with the new GEN3 product line. 

Which size Tuff Jug should I buy?

Tuff Jug is offered in 3 sizes to work for your specific needs! 

1.25G- The smallest Tuff Jug size in the lineup! Purposely designed for use with small tanks. This jug is best for small equipment and when you need maximum portability. The jug weighs approximately 10 lbs when filled with water. 

2.5G- Purposely designed to be just the right size for use with medium equipment. This jug offers a great balance between portability and capacity. The jug weighs approximately 20 lbs when filled with water. 

5G- The largest Tuff Jug size available and our best seller! Purposely designed for maximum capacity and meant to be used with your larger equipment. The jug weighs approximately 45 lbs when filled with water. 

Which cap/spout option should I buy? 

The Storage Cap + Auto Stop Spout is our most popular selling option due to its versatility, speed and Auto Stop functionality. Though not as fast as our Ripper Cap, you can still unload 5 gallons in 57 seconds, which blows away the competition! The end nozzle of the Auto Stop Spout is 1.02”, making it compatible with the vast majority of tanks and equipment out there.

The Ripper Cap isn’t just fast, it’s the fastest pouring cap option on the market- pouring 5 gallons in a mind-blowing 42 seconds! What makes the Ripper Cap truly exceptional is its spring-loaded design, eliminating the need to touch the nozzle. The Ripper Cap is designed to fit most top fill tank openings and will not work with any side fill tanks. The Ripper Cap will not work for side load tank applications or for tank inlets smaller than 1.5" in diameter. The Ripper Cap will not work well for filling tanks under 1.5 Gallons in size. Please measure your tank opening and confirm it is a top load tank before purchasing this cap option. 

Are any adapters needed for the Ripper Cap to work with my machines?

It is possible that an adapter may be needed for the proper use and function of your Tuff Jug with Ripper Cap. Please check out our dedicated KTM Adapter and ADAP Adapter pages for additional information. 

Is the cap/spout included with the jug purchase? 

When purchasing your Tuff Jug simply use the drop down menu to select which cap/spout you would like to purchase with your Tuff Jug. Additional caps and spouts can also be purchased in our shop. 

What is the black hose for?

The black ventilation line is required for the Tuff Jug to ventilate and pour properly. Please follow the instructional videos received with your purchase to ensure proper use of your new Tuff Jug! 

Will the same Storage Cap fit all jug sizes? 

The 1.25G, 2.5G and 5G Tuff Jug’s all have the same neck dimensions and thread pattern. The Storage Cap can be interchanged across all three jug sizes.

Will the same Auto Stop Spout fit all jug sizes? 

The Auto Stop Spout is required to be purchased according to the size of the Tuff Jug you will be using it with. For proper ventilation and function the ventilation line inside of the Auto Stop Spout must run from the tip of the nozzle, through the jug handle, and to the base of the Tuff Jug. Ventilation lines are manufactured to the corresponding jug height and as such cannot be swapped between Tuff Jug’s of different sizes.  

Will the same Ripper Cap fit all jug sizes?

The tank I’m filling is approximately 1 Gallon in size. Will Tuff Jug’s Auto Stop function work? 

For the auto-stop function to work on approximately 1 gallon tank sizes, you must use our 1.25G Tuff Jug. Trying to use a larger Tuff Jug to fill an approximately 1 gallon tank will not work as the pressure required to stop the flow of fluids will be greater than the back pressure generated. The auto-stop system may not work on tanks smaller than 1 gallon in size.
